What is the AAMC Preview exam?
The AAMC Preview Exam (formerly known as the Situational Judgment Test or SJT) is a 186-multiple choice exam that evaluates your understanding of professional behaviors in medical school and healthcare environments. It’s not about academic content, but provides medical schools with a more complete view of each applicant by assessing skills such as resilience and adaptability, service orientation, ethical responsibility to self and others, empathy and compassion, cultural awareness, cultural humility, and teamwork and collaboration, among others.
The exam takes approximately 75 minutes to complete and offers the convenience of testing at a location of your choosing with the addition of online proctoring. Scoring information can be found here. The exam costs $100 (free for those who qualify for the Fee Assistance Program), including distribution of your score report to an unlimited number of schools.
When should I take the AAMC PREview?
Appointment dates for the exam are typically between February to September, with testing appointments open in February each year. Please find the 2025 Testing Calendar here. There are few schools who require the AAMC PREView exam. Those that request these scores typically require them to be submitted before they provide an invitation to interview. PRIME Time recommends planning to take this exam between March-August of your application cycle.
